Review of David Carroll's She Twitched ( www.tabula-rasa.info/Writing/SheTwitched.html ) : I didn't quite understand this story. It was well written, but the character of Mr Eshkol was perplexing. What was he? Jewish? A Holocaust survivor (which would explain the numbers on his arms)? A Nazi? (Why would he have a gun with a swastika on it scratched out, and a Star of David on the other?) What made him tick? And why would he want to shoot Samantha- what did he have against witches? I understood Helen's frustration with her boss, but what was her connection to Eshkol? Who was Sallah? And what was up with Gladys Kravitz's hands? Is this story anti-Semitic? Perhaps the Neil Armstrong bit was thrown in to counter what was happening on Earth, but the metaphor should have been clearer. Maybe I'm just stupid. Other cons: violent; doesn't really follow the mood of the show; unclear. There still are some pros, though: Sam and Darrin are very romantic; the characters mostly act like they usually would under the circumstances; and the story uses descriptive phrasing. Still, this story left me with more questions than answers.

Hi. Just found this review of She Twitched, which I wrote many years ago. I think your comments were pretty accurate, particularly about the Neil Armstrong thing. I was trying something there that didn't reallywork -- and sadly, I had forgotten their was an episode of Bewitched that had already done it, pretty much. Wow, David! It's weird to think that your story was written over a decade ago... ancient in internet times. Nice to see that "Tabula Rasa" lives on, though, and finds reviews of its stories on obscure message boards. ;D I did like your story even if I didn't understand it. But now that you're here, what IS the deal with Mr. Eshkol?
